About Susan Emerson

Wheeler Steffen / Sotheby’s International Realty

Early on in my real estate career I realized how much I enjoyed working with and getting to know seniors in my community. After dealing with uncertainty and lack of information when it came to my own parent’s move I realized there must be many others facing the same challenges and issues. That is why I chose to become a Seniors Real Estate Specialist. I completed specialized training in order to ensure a smooth home sale process for seniors and their families facing these later-in-life situations.

Most of us will face the reality of aging parents and their changing needs. The financial and emotional issues involved in a move can be stressful for any family. Without the proper information this process can become overwhelming for everyone involved.

When faced with having to make a move, many people don’t know where to start in developing a plan, how to locate local resources needed to assist with the transition and most importantly, where they can receive emotional support. My job is not just about selling a home, but as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, I am a resource to my clients. I am there to help take care of the intricate details, to eliminate some of the worries, and to help develop a plan together with my client to help the move go as smooth as possible.

What Customers Say

"Many THANKS to Susan Emerson! We recently closed escrow on my parents home in Claremont. As I live in Fresno, it was a stressful time in readying the house to go on the market. Susan was a terrific help! She closely monitored all aspects, without my having to drive back and forth between So. CA and Fresno. The number of trips she saved me from having to make, is truly appreciated! The professionalism she exhibited through the entire process was huge. Her ability in scheduling the necessary people/companies to do repairs, improvements, inspections, etc was point on. There was never a doubt that things wouldn’t get completed as required! I can honestly say she was the best realtor we’ve ever used, and we have been through a number of transactions in 35 years of marriage. If you are looking for an individual to take you through your real estate transaction, from start to finish, as seamlessly as possible, call Susan."

Getting Rid of Possessions: It’s Harder Than You Think

Since the process is partly psychological, here's how to prepare:

If you’re ready to move to a smaller space or think you might want to downsize in the not-too-distant future, take a deep breath and start planning.

It’s a much bigger task than you’ll ever imagine, partly because the process entails far more than just deciding which possessions to keep and which to toss.
